I'm a Changed Woman!

I mentioned in my last post that we were about to embark on a week long clean out of our home which would end in a giant yard sale. OH BOY! Did we ever clean this house out!! It took the entire week. All day, every day. I am so sick of stuff. I am so sick of looking at stuff, of thinking about stuff, of taking stuff out of our house. I am talking to you as a completely reformed pack rat.

Yes, you heard me right --
I AM COMPLETELY REFORMED!

Oh, don't go crazy now ... I still like books, paper, fabric, and crafts. The difference is that I now see the wisdom in one craft at a time - one notebook at a time - one sewing project at a time. Maybe I should start a 12 step program for hoarders?

I could delve into a completely introspective rant about over-committing (or the inability to do merely one thing at a time); however, I am displaying my new skills by NOT leaving my one topic to jump to another and thus do - yet again - more than one thing at a time ... oops, there I go again!

ANYWAY, the tag sale WAS the Martha Stewart version I'd imagined all along. Extra bedding was bound by twine, marked with hand-written tags, and placed in wicker laundry baskets. All the merchandise was carefully displayed and grouped. It was fun!Maybe the most entertaining aspect of the whole experience was seeing the kids in action. They cleaned out their toys, set up their "kid area", and priced everything. I only guided them, every last decision was their own. They even took the money for their own items. I think they made close to $70! Impressive! The kids also ran a Lemonade Stand! Last year we (read "I") submitted an essay to Sunkist about why the kids would want to run a Lemonade Stand as well as what charity they would give the proceeds. In return, Sunkist sent us a cardboard Lemonade Stand to use for the project. It only took us (read "me") a year to pull it all together for the kids to do what they've been dying to do. It was worth the wait. Noah with his sweet demeanor and soft spoken way raised $21 for the SPCA. When you consider that Lemonade was 25 cents a cup, that's some serious lemonade slinging he was doing!
So when it was all said and done, we made a chunk of change! We still had a ton of stuff left. Tracy loaded up the truck and went to Goodwill before I could change my mind and drag it all back into the house - Good Man!!
Lily was very happy to have the whole ordeal over with!
Can we go back to our normal routine, please?!

Very impressive Marthaology to your madness. I am so with you when it comes to packratedness. Step #1: admit you have a problem. CHECK. Now don't you feel incredibly better already? ;o)

Wow, what a project! I need to do that again when we get back. I'm guessing you don't want any of our extra stuff...big grin. Have a great day!
