More Flags, More Fun!

Posted by Picasa

On Tuesday I took Ab and Noah to Six Flags. Before you get all impressed thinking I'm a good mom or mistakingly think I'm a big amusement park fan, keep reading ... We had some rain Monday and Monday night so I figured we were in for some more rain Tuesday. Why not take the kids to Six Flags when there is a high chance of rain? We may get rained out (oh darn!) and get rain checks - then Daddy could take them the next time (whoopee!).

Don't ever go somewhere with the misconception that Mother Nature will bail you out of something you really don't want to do!

ANYWAY, the kids were very excited to go to Six Flags. It's difficult for that not to rub off on you just a little bit. I figured out about five years ago that I can't really "do" roller coasters anymore. I've tried a few times after that fatal day (sorry Clint and Kelly) with limited success. I've figured out that I can ride relatively tame roller coasters, but not spinning things or anything that may cause unconsciousness. Even though I knew this - I got on a spinning thing. It looked so innocent, so fun. In reality, it's the Devil's own amusement ride. It's a little piece of hell sitting sweetly in the middle of "Texas" - it's called,"The Rodeo". Avoid it. Run. Do not let those little bulls pull you into their laps - turn and walk away ... actually, run as fast as you can!! By the time the ride was over, I was covered in a cold sweat, saliva was filling my mouth, heaving was about to ensue. I managed to contain myself by recalling the mortification I felt after heaving in the bushes following my sixth ride on the Spindle Top when I was six years old. Amazingly I was able to walk off the ride and find my way to a bench.

The kids and I sat for a few minutes. I lied and told them I was okay. Noah, who is very sweet, suggested riding the Yosemite Sam ride, which used to be the Tunnel of Love, because it is "just sitting and riding". During our ride, Noah touched my arm and screeched, "MOM! Your arm is cold and wet!" Yes folks! I had the cold sweats. I was ready to hurl. This experience has encouraged me to rate Six Flags rides for other aged folks whose equilibrium may also be compromised. I call it, The Hurl Method. Five Hurls is the max.

**Oh! and just in case you were wondering how the rest of the day panned out - the kids rode the Mine Train six times in a row. It gave me time to sit, sip a Diet Coke, munch a little popcorn, and equal out my equilibrium. They had a ball & the remainder of the day was pretty fun!

Hurl Ratings:
  • The Rodeo - 5 Hurls
  • Batman - 3 Hurls
  • Mr. Freeze - 5 Hurls (do NOT ride those two back to back)
  • El Sombrero - 3 Hurls
  • El Conquistador - 2 Hurls (upgraded to 3 if you ride it after El Sombrero)
  • The Mine Train - 1 Hurl
  • Old Flume Zoom (don't remember new name - it's the log ride) - 0 Hurls
  • Superman - who the heck knows! after that kid got her feet chopped off, I won't go near it!
  • Roaring Rapids - 1 Hurl
  • Six Flags Train - 0 Hurls
  • Yosemite Same ride - 0 Hurls
  • Gunslinger - 2 Hurls
  • Chapparelle Cars - 0 Hurls
  • Shockwave - 2 Hurls
  • Judge Roy Scream - 2 Hurls (although another source would rate this 5 Hurls - beware)
That's all I can think of at the moment. If you have any more - let me know!!

I can't do rollercoasters either. Honestly, my stomach turns a little if I swing with the kids at the park. I hate that I'm the mom who enjoys the shows more than the rides...but I also don't like hurling...what are you gonna do???

One more thing...amusement parks are always GREAT for people watching. I could keep myself entertained all day with that!!

oh my gosh Glenda! Bless your heart ha ha Im not a big fan of rides either. I get dizzy and about want to pass out. And the HOT weather does not help with that.

Your hurl rating is HILARIOUS! I don't even go near the "real" roller coasters, I stay on the kiddie stuff and let Jeff go on the Superman ride alone.
