Christmas Done Come Early This Year!

A few posts back, Lily mentioned that Grandpa and Grammy were here & that Momma was keeping them busy. Lily was generous - Mommy, uh, I (no more 3rd person speak for me!) was making them slaves. Since they've been gone, I've had lots of time to reflect upon all the help they were and how much I miss them!

So, I felt the need to compose an Ode to Dad or as I'm lovingly thinking of it, "Christmas done come early this year!"

First, a few pictures to set the tone:

I like to call this one - "Big Millers in a Little Car"
(We were all crammed in Dad & Judy's little bug.)

Uh, hem ...

So I found myself in a pickle with lots of work and very little time.
The baby seems fussy & hubby isn't towing the line.
The children play too many sports and I haven't got a dime.
What the heck was I thinkin'?
This house won't be ready THREE whole weeks before Christmas time!!

Sister calls to say, "I'll be comin' with the kids for a week!"
Oh great! Sure, I have time for that!
Other one calls to ask, "You up for Thanksgivin' sis?"
Why the heck not? I'm smokin' crack!
Only four of us left - no time to fuss
I never thought I'd look forward to a relaxing Christmas rush!

Decoratin' to be decorated, sod to be put in place
All of this to be done while we're runnin' the rat race!
I'm starting to despair, there will never be enough time
Why did I do it? Why did I say it would be fine?!

Dad calls to ask, "Can you finish? You think you're alright?"
I laugh and say, "SURE!"
Hubby (and everyone else) says, "You're crazy!"
I laugh and say, "SURE!"
a white coat should be waitin' cause I think they may be onto something ...
Dad calls again and says, "I'm stayin' another week to help."
I'm speechless, a little weepy, shocked & amazed actually and say,
"SURE!"

The man can work a squeegee the likes you've never seen.
He's the best pool man! Our water never turned green!
The leaves fall off at the sight of him, he was on a ladder in the tree
Could this be the man who once trotted me upon his knee?

I swear there was a cape
hiding beneath his coat
He must have seen the batsignal
from a location so remote

I was saved!
It was done!
Thanksgiving happened without a hitch.
A sister's memorial service
Uneventful, final ... what's the catch?

Another week of prepartation
the tour upon us now
Little by little that elephant was eaten
Time for my Dad, the Superhero, to take a bow

As the coach pulled away, down the drive, from Bradley Street
a tear flashed in my eye

Christmas need not come
for it's already been here
Did Dad have any idea when he sprung into gear
That he was gonna make
Christmas come early this year?
