Who's Your Mummy?

I'm a Texan. One right of passage I loved was the Homecoming Mum. They were big. They were noisy. You had to attach them through your shirt and onto your bra strap to keep your shirt from falling off, but they were fun! I remember my sisters hanging their mums on their bulletin boards after Homecoming. I couldn't wait to be old enough to wear one! In fact, the first one I wore was hand made by my boyfriend. I loved it & I still have it to this day (I know, I know - I'm a sentimental sap).

So many of our aquaintances are new to Texas. All of our Texas traditions seem strange and meaningless to them --- so I decided to take this matter into my own hands!

For Activity Days today we played Powder Puff Football and then made our own Homecoming Mums. They were mini, but they packed a whollop of a Texas Pride punch! At first some of the girls were saying things like, "This is silly." "Why would I want to wear that?" But after their mums were made, their tunes changed ... "OH! I love it!" "How do I wear it?" "When do we get big ones like these?" and my favorite comment, "They're beautiful!!"

It just goes to show ya' --- Fun is FUN no matter what!!
