Spring Break for (I believe) the entire state of Texas was last week. Grandpa and Grammy were in town half the week. We loved being able to play with them!
On Thursday morning, Tracy pulled a rock star move. 1) He let me sleep until 10 a.m. - unheard of! 2) When I woke up he said, "Start packing! I booked a lake house!"
Sounds like fun, but you're not getting the whole "Rock Star" thing? Like I mentioned before, I believe the entire state of Texas was having Spring Break at the same time. Finding anything available was insane. I looked for weeks and weeks with no luck. Hearing that we were going away for a few days was a wonderful surprise!
The house was on Lake Whitney, which is about two hours away on the northern edge of Texas Hill Country (one of my favorite places on earth). The house had a beautiful view!
We tried to enjoy Fossil Rim Nature Park, but it was so packed a normal two hour adventure would have taken seven hours! Instead, we headed to the town of Hico, which is home to a delicious store called The Homestead. We had some yummy Hill Country Bar-b-Que, shopped a bit, then enjoyed the Texas countryside on the way back to the house. That last statement will get grunts and groans from the kids - they were a little disappointed about Fossil Rim & had had enough time in the car!
One thing I did discover on our voyage: County Courthouses. We saw four **AMAZING** courthouses. I wish we would have stopped to photograph all four, but only got a pic of one. Hmmm ... new idea for coffee table book - Texas Courthouses!
Sunday, rejuvinated and relaxed, we set out for home and returned to SNOW! McKinney received 8 inches of snow Saturday night!! Unheard of, the most snow this area has probably ever seen! As a rule, I don't get out in the snow. This time, even I couldn't resist! We went out and built the biggest snowman! It was so fun!
Spring Break was a success! Due to a rock star Dad and fickle Mother Nature. One word: AWESOME!
