I have this story (isn't that a shock?!). I'm in 7th Grade. There are two spots open on the Basketball team. Three girls try out. I am one of them. I'm the one who doesn't make the team. I saw the humor then, which was a good thing. I'm not an athlete.
Abby is an athlete. She may not be the best at any given sport, but she plays them ALL with heart. I really admire her determination. She loves to be part of a team. She really enjoys trying new things. When she is successful, my heart swells.
Tonight, Abby was completely beat up on the court. While I felt like marching out on the court and twisting a few arms behind backs and giving a few lectures on playing fair, I did not. I cheered for our team. I even cheered for the other team since we know a little girl playing for them. I kept my mouth shut (for the most part). ;) Seeing my little Abby get pummeled by girls who are inches taller and pounds heavier was a hard thing; however, she was treated rough because she's good.
That made me proud.
